Caelan Doris Secures Spot in Ireland Selection While McCarthy Omitted
Returning head coach the Ireland coach has included captain Doris in his Ireland roster for the fall Tests, but Joe McCarthy has been excluded.
Doris, absent from play since having a shoulder operation in early May, has come back to provincial training, though his fitness is uncertain if he will be ready to play against New Zealand in the US on 1 November.
Lock Joe McCarthy, however, was not considered after failing to recover from the foot issue suffered during the first British and Irish Lions match against Australia in the summer.
Northern province player Izuchukwu and Munster wing Nash are not included because of fitness concerns, and full-back Hugo Keenan was previously excluded after undergoing hip surgery following the Lions tour.
Dublin province prop McCarthy - the brother of Joe - is the sole uncapped member in the 34-man group, but the Irish Rugby Football Union says uncapped Munster duo Edogbo and Brian Gleeson and once-capped western province wing Bolton will head to Chicago as "reserves".
After playing the New Zealand at Soldier Field in a rematch of their previous meeting, the team host the Brave Blossoms, the Wallabies and world champions the Springboks in Dublin.
"There's an exciting look to the panel and it's a chance for the more experienced members and for the newcomers on the summer tour to Georgia and the Lobos," commented the coach, back to national team duties after a break to lead the British and Irish Lions to Australia.
In a mostly experienced squad, Leinster's Sam Prendergast and Munster's Crowley will again compete for the first-choice fly-half spot. The fly-half role is still up for grabs, as the two players set to face off for the first occasion in the upcoming URC match at Croke Park.
Frawley is the additional number 10 selected as the coach deciding not to selecting the province's Harry Byrne.
At scrum-half, Farrell has selected British and Irish Lion Jamison Gibson-Park and Craig Casey, who led the national side to the summer international wins over Georgia and Portugal. There is also a recall for Connacht's Blade, who is preferred to teammate Murphy.
Robbie Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Garry Ringrose and McCloskey represent an experienced group of centre choices. Osborne is a further choice in the midfield, but the youngster is also a leading candidate to deputise for Keenan at full-back.
Wingers James Lowe, Mack Hansen, Tommy O'Brien and Jacob Stockdale are included. O'Brien impressed on his first Ireland outings over the summer with a brace each in the wins over the Lelos and Portugal.
Paddy McCarthy is the sole new name in the Irish pack. The front rower has started a couple of Leinster's URC United Rugby Championship games so far and played in Ireland A's loss by the English in Bristol earlier this year.
The 22-year-old was selected in caretaker coach Paul O'Connell's summer selection, yet did not earn a cap.
Southern province lock Ahern, who earned his first two caps in those matches, is retained, and experienced Northern province lock Iain Henderson returns after sitting out the summer matches.
Conan, who played in each of the Lions matches over the summer, is poised to cover for Doris should the captain fails to recover fitness in time to play the All Blacks.
The Ireland squad will meet in Dublin on the start of the week before flying to Chicago on Tuesday.
