Female Victim Stabbed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Assault Dies
A woman stabbed repeatedly to her neck area during a random assault at a bus stop in Birmingham has died, authorities verified.
The victim, aged 34 years, was targeted on Smallbrook Queensway street, just outside Bullring shopping complex, shortly before 21:00 GMT on Friday, according to police statements.
Djeison Rafael, twenty-one, was presented at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday, facing charges for the attack.
Originally charged of attempted murder but following the victim's passing the charge has been updated to include murder.
Law Enforcement Actions
The force said police personnel will remain in the downtown area through Monday to offer reassurance, while detectives assisted the woman's family.
Detectives are appealing any eyewitnesses who may have seen the accused, identified as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in an all-grey tracksuit, dark headwear, athletic shoes with a backpack.
Attack Site Details
The stabbing happened near the Bullring shopping centre, across from the main entrance to Birmingham New Street station.
Police said they were treating it as "unprovoked attack" with investigators stating they were working to understand the motive behind.
Witness Accounts
Shalini Doal, employed in the vicinity, recounted paramedic and police activity when she finished her shift around 10 PM on Friday.
She described the scene as "quite chaotic", and said some of her colleagues heard a commotion at about 21:00.
"A lot of co-workers take public transport, take the tram... our security is compromised fundamentally, in the downtown area."
Another individual, twenty-five, from Stoke-on-Trent, said he came the city quite frequently visiting his partner resident there, and was concerned regarding the incident.
"It causes concern about my partner," he stated.
"She lacks transportation and works at all of the big music venues... and to think something completely unprovoked [happened], understandably, it's horrible."
